PROGRAMMES OFFERED
Courses:
B.Sc Chemistry main with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries
Eligibility :
Plus two or equivalent examination with chemistry as one
of the subjects
Student Strength :
B.Sc Chemistry - 40 Seats
Learning Resources
:
The Department has well equipped lab, Computer facility,
software for molecular drawings and graphs, OHP, Electronic
balance & various kinds of models and charts. There
is a wide collection of around 200 Chemistry books and relevant
science journals in the department. A book bank is operating
for the help of financially weak students.
Academic facilities
:
There are separate laboratories for main and subsidiary
students. Seminars, group discussions, quiz programmes are
conducted for the academic development of students. Seminars
by experts are arranged under the auspices of the Chemistry
association. Previous question paper files are kept at the
department for the benefit of students.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
Special Achievements :
The department has started
an annual manuscript magazine titled 'THANMATHRA" (meaning
"the molecule") to enhance the creativity of the
students. A good number of our students are employed as
teachers; lecturers in various academic institutions and
many are well placed in leading industries like, FACT, Cochin
Refineries, Synthite Industrial Chemicals Ltd. etc. In the
first assessment report, the peer team has appreciated our
laboratory facilities.
Extension Programmes
:
As a part of extension works of social relevance, students
of the Department had conducted a survey on plastic pollution
among public and gave awareness of the health hazardous
effects of the plastic. The Department has done preliminary
arrangements for conducting a survey on harmful effects
of commonly used mosquito repellents.
