BRIEF HISTORY

The Department of Economics was established in 1964.The founder head of the Department was Prof.K..Paulose. Economics B.A Course was started in the year 1967.

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

Courses:
B.A.Economics main with politics and history as subsidiaries

Eligibility :
Any student who has passed the Higher Secondary examination is eligible for admission to the course.

Student Strength :
B.A Economics - 40 seats per batch.

Learning Resources :
Departmental library having nearly 200 books., A Multi Media Computer with printer, C.Ds and internet facility. Question papers of the past years are available for student reference.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Extension Programmes :

1. Organised programme for the development of communicative skill among students.
2. Personality development programmes were organized for Rotary club members under the leadership of George.K.Issac.
3. As District President and Secretary of Yuvakalasahiti, George.K.Issac actively participated in organizing training camp for budding poets at Kolenchery, History awareness camp at Muvattupuzha and a camp for training short story writers.
4. As Co-ordinator of Entrepreneurship development club, V.K.George conducted various seminars to cultivate Entrepreneurial quality among students.
5. Organised AIDS awareness programmes for public.
6. Helped Farmer's Co-operative Society, Vadavucode for recruiting staff ( Two times):- Question paper were set, Examinations were conducted, Evaluated the Answer scripts and ranked the participants.

Faculty Development Programme:

• National and state level seminars were attended by the teachers of the Department
• Gigi Elias is doing Research work for Ph.D on "Economics of Coconut Products.
  

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Extra curricular Activities :

1. Mr.Baby John, Manager, The Federal bank, Kolenchery, given a talk on Impact of Globalisation on banks.
2. Mr.Jose Paul FCA, delivered a lecture on Ammentments of Tax Rules and their impact on various sectors of the society.
3. Adv.Mathew N.Abraham, delivered a talk on Terrorism Rules and their multifarious effects in India.
4. Dr.Anil Mathew made a descriptive speech on Dental care and general health condition in Kerala.

  2006-2007

Department  has organized different programmes for the total development of the students.

2007-2008

Smt. Bella Francis inaugurated the Economic Association on 16th August 2007. The Onam and X'mas were celebrated with variety entertainment programmes and competitions. Economic Association received best stall award in the Onam fair organized by the women cell.

2008-2009

Association was inaugurated by Prof.Baby John. Career Guidance class and blood donation camps were conducted by the association and blood donor's list was prepared. A seminar on Globalisation and recent recession was organised by the association, Ms.Suseela Devi, Principal, B.Ed College, Kolenchery was the resource person.
