The Department of Hindi started functioning in 1964 with Dr. P.R. Gopalakrishna Pai as the first HOD.

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

Courses:
Model II B.A. Hindi (Vocational) course. The course is conducted in six semesters (three years). The syllabus of the course includes all that conventional B.A. Degree course and in addition computer, journalism and translation.


Eligibility :
Any student who has passed the Higher Secondary examination is eligible for admission to the course.

Student Strength : Sanctioned strength in a batch - 24


Learning Resources :

  • The Department maintains a library with a good collection of reference books, periodicals and journals.
  • A computer lab with 3 computers and printer and scanner are available for computer studies.
  • Project works and seminars are assigned to the students.
  • Students are sent for on the job training to institutions like BSNL, railway, customs, Spices Board etc.
  • Special coaching for P.G. entrance examinations is given.
  • Talks on relevant topics are arranged under the auspices of the "Rashtra Bhasha Sahitya Sangh".

Awards and Scholarships :

A Scholarship is introduced by Prof. M.K. Chandrashekara Warrier to the best out going student of BA Hindi (Voc) Course.

Extension Programmes :

Mrs. Beena Pylee made a visit to the villages of Allahabad to promote literacy.

Faculty Development Programme:

  1. Mrs. K.K. Meena is on deputation for research for PhD under the faculty Improvement Program of the UGC.
  2. Mrs. P.V. Sheela is under going the research for PhD under the Faculty improvement program of the UGC.
  3. The faculty members frequently participate in the state level and national seminars.
  4. Mrs. K.K. Meena, Mrs.Beena Pylee, and Mrs. P.V. Sheela have attended refresher courses.
  5. Mrs.Sindhu P Kauma and Dr. Geeth K.A have attended an orientation course (IT Oriented)

ACTIVITIES

2006-2007

Official inauguration of Hindi Association was conducted on 29.08.2006 by Dr.Babu T.A., Department of Hindi, St. Dominic College, Kanjirappilly. Competition in quiz, essay writing, story writing, patriotic song, elocution and recitation were conducted for high school students in connection with Hindi week celebration during September 7 to 14, 2007. Miss Soumya T.Joy, St.Peter’s Senior Secondary School, Kadayiruppu, secured first prize in elocution and recitation. Hindi classes were conducted for school students on behalf of Hindi Prachar Programme. Jessy George secured 2nd and Rejitha K.V. secured 3rd rank in B.A Hindi Vocational Degree Examination conducted by M.G.University during 2006.

2007-2008

The activities of the Hindi Literary Association " Rashtrabhasha Sahithya Sangh' for the academic year 2007-2008 were inaugurated by Prof.Varghese S.Nedumthallil, for HOD of Malayalam on 23-08-2007. Hindi week, a week dedicated to promote Hindi Language & Literature was observed  from 7th to 14th September 2007. Competition in quiz, poem, writing, story writing, patriotic song, recitation and elocution were conducted. Students presented a skit. 'Mukdama' based on contemporary social problems which was a memorable event on the year. Miss.Anjana S. of second BA got second prize in Inter-collegiate elocution competition conducted at St.Teresa's College, Ernakulam on 8th February 2008.

2008-2009

The activities of the Hindi Literary Association " Rashtrabhasha Sahithya Sangh' for the academic year 2007-2008 were inaugurated Smt.S.Janaki, Hindi Oficer, Indian Rare Earths Ltd. A seminar on Functional Hindi was also organised on ;that day. Smt.T.S. Leena, Hindi officer, CIFT was the chief resource person. Hindi week was celebrated from 14th September to 21st Septmber , Competitions such as Elocution, Recitation, Quiz, Essay writing and Peotry were conducted and prized were distributed to the winners.
