BRIEF HISTORY

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1967 with the introduction of B Sc Degree course in Mathematics. Later the Department was elevated to the status of a Post Graduate Department with the beginning of M.Sc course in Mathematics in 1984.

8. Prof.K.K.George M.Sc, AIE was the Bursar of the college from its beginning. In 1973 he became the Principal, and was in that position until May 1987. Prof M.K.Mani was in-charge of the Principal for six months during the year 1994-95.

Eligibility :
B.Sc: Pass in Plus two with Mathematics as one of the Optional Subject.
M.Sc: Pass in B.Sc (Mathematics/Statics)

Student Strength :
The sanctioned strength of B.Sc degree course is 40 and that of the M.Sc course is 15.

Learning Resources:

1. The department has a library with 120 books and a reading room.
2. Computer Lab with 6 computers and internet facility.
3. Frequent conduct of seminars, workshops etc on important topics.

Academic Facilities :
The Department has spacious and well furnished staff room and 5 classrooms nearby the staffroom. A separate room is there for the HOD with intercom facility. The department possesses an OHP and computer Scanner with copier.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Special Achievements:
Average success rate of the students in B.Sc class is 90% and for M.Sc the success rate is 95%. Miss Jaya Paul has brought laurels to the Department by way of winning the 1st rank in M.Sc Mathematics in 2002.

Awards and Scholarships :
The department has introduced the Prof M Yacob memorial Endowment Award for the topper in M.Sc Mathematics Examinations.

Prof K.I.Ittiachan and Prof.Omana Varghese, retired members of the faculty have introduced endowment awards to the topper in statistics and the best outgoing student (B.Sc) of the Department respectively.

Extension Programmes :
The Department Organizes computer literacy programmes in nearby schools.

The Department is actively associating with Cochin University of Science and Technology and Kerala Mathematical Association for conducting seminars and workshops.

• Paper entitled “ M-Fuzzy Groups and M-Fuzzy Homomorphisms” at the National Seminar held at FISAT, Angamaly.

• Paper entitleld “ Injectivity of Fuzzy G-modules” at the National Seminar held at Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananathapuram.

Faculty Development Programmes

1. Sri.A.N.Narayanan Elayath has attended one International and 3 national seminars
2. Sri.Thampi Abraham is undergoing research for Ph.D under the FIP of UGC. He has attended one international, three national and 5 regional seminars.
3. Smt.Raji George has been awarded M.Phil degree, and attended one international, one national and 3 Regional Seminar.
4. Sri.K.P Jose is doing research for Ph.D. He has attended 6 orientation/refresher courses, 2 short term training programmes conducted by AICTE, SIX International conference and workshops, one national and another regional seminars.
5. Smt.Anu.V is doing Ph.D, attended two international, one national and 3 Regional Seminars.

Extracurricular activities:

• Sri. Jose Joseph.M is serving as co-coordinator of Career Guidance Bureau and Placement Cell of the College.
• Sri. K.P Jose is working as NSS programme officer and executive committee member of the Alumni.
• Some of the faculty was served as staff advisor to the students Union and as member of the College Council.

Membership in academic and other bodies :

Sri.A.N.Narayanan Elayath is member of Board of Studies in M.Sc Mathematics of the University and the Core-committee for M.Sc. Actuarial Science of the Univesity.

ACTIVITIES

2006-2007

1.Mathematics Association activities were inaugurated by Mr. Sunny Kuriakose, Reader, Department of Mathematics, U.C. College, Aluva.

2. Organised seminar on ‘Principle, Philosophy and Practice of Ecoactivism’. Prof.Josekutty Ozhukayil, Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha was the resource person.

3. Conducted Quiz competition. Sri.Jinishlal Raj, Department of Malayalam was the Quiz Master.

4. ‘Rhythm’, the manuscript magazine of the association was released by the principal, Prof.Joy C.George, Principal.

2007-2008

The activities of Mathematics Association were inaugurated by Prof(Dr) A.Krishnamoorthy. The Association released a Magazine titled'Heart Beats'. Smt.Divya V Secured II rank in the M.Sc Degree examination -2008.

2008-2009

Mathematics Association of the year was inaugurated by Prof.A.N.Narayanan Ilayath, The association released the manuscript magazine titled 'Phoenix'.
