The
National Cadet Corps is an organisation working under the
ministry of Defence, Govt. of India. A well functioning
N.C.C. unit, which is considered as a prestigious unit of
18(K) Bn. N.C.C. is functioning in the College. Captian
Jaison Thomas of the Department of English is functioning
as the N.C.C. officer
N.C.C. Aims at:
-
To develop character, comradeship,
the ideal of service and capacity for leadership among
the young men.
-
To provide service training
to young men so as to stimulate their interest in the
defence of the country
All able bodied men and women
students can seek admission to the N.C.C. unit in the college.
Cadets who have the required attendance to their credit,
and have shown sufficient progress in training can appear
for B and C certificate examinations conducted by the ministry
of Defence, Govt. of India. It gives weightage of marks
for higher education including professional courses. N.
C. C. training will be treated as, additional qualification
while making recruitment to public service.
It conducted various activities
during recent years:
I. Training Activities
1. Conducted 20 parades with
a total strength of 108 cadets every year.
2. Gave lectures on various topics including Traffic awareness,
Traffic rules, AIDS etc..
3. Fire fighting and precautions, First Aid etc..
4. Weapon training and Firing practices are conduced every
year.
5. Personality development programmes and lectures were
conducted.
II. Adventure Activities
(a) Cycle Expeditions
Inter state cycle Expeditions:
1 Kolenchery to Coimbatore
and back(2001) 2. Kolenchery to Kanyakumari and(2002) back.
Locally arranged cycle Expeditions
1. Kolenchery to Booththankettu
2. Kolenchery to Thattekkadu 3. Kolenchery
to Thommankuthu.
(b) Trekking Expeditions 1.
Kodikuthi mala Oormana 2. Thommankuthu 3.
Rajamala Munnar, 4. Senapathi, Rajakkadu 5. Top Station
Munnar.
(c) Mini Marathon: Muvattupuzha
to Kolenchery (15 Kms) Mini marathon
races were conducted every year.
III. Social Service
1. Cadets donated blood for
many patients .
2. Conducted medical camps at Mazhuvannoor and Kolenchery.
3. Collected and sent clothes for the people of Gujarat
at the time of Earthquake.
4. Given food and clothes for the leprosy patients of Evangeline
Booth Leprosy and General Hospital at Varikoli.
5. Approach roads for a nearby bridge for public use were
completed by NCC cadets.
6. Cleaned the premises of the Munisif Court at Kolenchery
.
7. Cadets donated food and clothes for the Tsunami affected
people.
IV. NCC Band
A band troupe of 30 cadets
is organized in the College. They are given band training
every year. The band troupe has conducted various programmes
at local and University level. The trained cadets are having
employment opportunity in Army Band and Police Band.
V. Camps
Five intercollegiate camps
were conducted in this College by 18(K) Bn. NCC, Muvattupuzha.
Each camp had a strength of 600 to 800 cadets.
Cadets of this College attended
various camps including Republic Day parade at Delhi, Basic
Leadership Camps at Delhi and Thalsena Camps at Delhi, National
Integration camps at Punjab, Assam, Gwalior, Rajasthan,
Tamil Nadu, Trekking camp at Trivandrum, Army Attachment
camps at Ootty and Trivandrum.
VI. Certificate Examinations
Cadets of this College maintained
excellent results in the certificate ‘B’ and
certificate ‘C’ examinations every year.
VII. Placements in
the State Police and Army
Many cadets have got placements
as security officers in various companies, in the State
Police as constables, as Jawans, Sailors and Officers in
the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
VIII. Women’s
Wing
Lady cadets are enrolled since
2003 and are given NCC training. 40% of the total strength
is lady cadets now.
IX. Awards
Major P.T. Mathew memorial
cash award is given to the best cadet of this College every
year. Cadets are getting weightage of marks for their admissions
in various courses. They are given grace marks by the University
for their participation in various camps and performance
in the certificate examinations.
X. Celebrations
Special parades were conducted
on Independence Day and Republic Day, every year. NCC day
and Army Day were also celebrated every year.
