Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center

IEDC is an undertaking of the Government of Kerala, under the strong mentorship of Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), and serves as a platform for bringing successful entrepreneurs to the modern dynamic business world. The sanction for the setting up of IEDC in our college was accorded by the government in 2020.  The main objective of the center is to inculcate a culture of innovation-driven entrepreneurship through student projects and to promote the students to start their own entrepreneurial ventures. Ever since its inception, various activities have been carried out as per the government guidelines to achieve this objective.
Vision
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Club of SPC aims to help students develop a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship and to act as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information on all aspects of enterprise building to budding entrepreneurs.
Purpose
To inculcate a culture of innovation-driven entrepreneurship through student projects and to promote the institutional vision of transforming youngsters into technological entrepreneurs and innovative leaders.

Objectives of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Center

  • To create awareness and interest among faculties and students through workshops and Hackathons.
  • To motivate, support and mentor students for identification, development and commercialisation of their innovative ideas.
  • To create a platform for the young brains to develop their skills and to give proper technological exposure.
  • To organize workshops, Business plan competitions, Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, innovation Camps in the college.

Achievements

  • Food and Beverage Product Development Certificate course and Skill Development Program is being conducted in collaboration with Zaara Biotech Company. The students are currently attempting to make various nutraceuticals like cookies, gummies etc using plant products of high nutritive value.
  •  “FLAKE-A-LICIOUS”- HEALTHY DIETARY FLAKES FROM BANANA STEM- Our student team comprising of Ms. Anagha Sunil, Ms. Anakha Jayan, Akhila M.K and Athira A.M have won the 5th position and won a grant of 1 lakh rupees in the prestigious “Dreamvestor contest” organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Kerala from among 816 applicants. The winners were felicitated by the MLA of Kunnathunad constituency, Mr. P V Sreenijin at the Kunnathunad Fest on 22nd August, 2023
  • Ms.Ayana M.C and the team from the Department of Biotechnology have reached the final stage of the “Innovative Challenge 2023” organized by the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) for her innovative product, “ Hibigums” for menstrual cramps.
  • In the KDISC YIP5.0 Category 2 Preliminary evaluation, 15 teams from the college were shortlisted. They will be contesting in the district-level competitions to be held.
